Pursue results because it matters
Results and people are not opposing priorities in leadership.
Firstly, leaders shouldn’t feel guilty about achieving results. Effective leaders pursue high standards, accountability and performance.
But leadership that achieves results by neglecting, exhausting or even manipulating people will eventually lose both relationships and results.
Because when people are consistently overlooked as interchangeable or a means to an end, the cost eventually catches up:
→ Trust erodes
→ People takes care of their own turf
→ Teams play it safe
→ People disengage
→ A-players leave
→ Innovation declines
→ Sales decline
The strongest leaders I’ve seen is able to influence their people toward meaningful outcomes while adding value to them - with thoughtfulness and empathy.
I believe leadership is not choosing between performance or people. It is building performance by elevating people.
